Israel’s first Elections in the Age of AI: A New Tool for Monitoring Political Communication
Israel’s upcoming elections will take place in a political and technological environment unlike any we have known before. Artificial intelligence is transforming the way political messages are created, processed, and delivered to voters, presenting a new challenge to our ability to identify, understand, and assess the content shaping the election campaign.
We are proud to introduce the next step in protecting public discourse and safeguarding election integrity: an innovative tool to monitor and analyze the use of AI in political campaigns.
Ze-be-AI (already in AI) is a new system that monitors, in real time, the official accounts of political parties and candidates for the Knesset, across leading platforms: Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok. It combines automated data collection, AI-content detection algorithms, a dedicated research methodology, and rigorous human oversight.
Prof. Anat Ben-David, who developed the initiative together with her team at The Open University, explains the significance of the project:
“The question is no longer simply whether a particular image or video was created using artificial intelligence, but how the cumulative use of AI is transforming election campaigning. The tool we developed makes it possible to move beyond individual pieces of content and see the bigger picture: who is using the technology, how, how often, and how its use evolves throughout the campaign.”
The goal is to provide the public, and the media with an additional layer of transparency at a time when political content can be created and disseminated at an unprecedented speed and scale.
