The Honorable Joseph Lieberman and Hadassah Lieberman

Senator Joseph Lieberman and Hadassah Lieberman have addressed some of America’s most pressing issues – education, the environment, national security, and equal opportunity for all – during their distinguished careers in public service.

Joe Lieberman, perhaps best known as the Democratic candidate for Vice President in 2000, will be retiring from the U.S. Senate after representing Connecticut for 24 years. Senator Lieberman has earned a reputation as a thoughtful, principled and effective legislator who works across party lines to find common ground and speaks his conscience.

After 9/11 Senator Lieberman was a leading champion for the creation of the Homeland Security Department and is a strong and consistent advocate for using America’s military might to defend America’s interests and values abroad.

He has fought for economic policies that support growth and innovation, expand markets for American products and protect investors and consumers. Senator Lieberman has been a long time supporter of the environment, helping to enact legislation for clean air and to combat climate change.  He also is a strong advocate of investing in public schools and giving all Americans regardless of income, the chance to go to college and to develop skills to succeed in our global economy.

Hadassah Lieberman, a daughter of Holocaust survivors, has dedicated much of her life’s work to health issues, assisting nonprofit organizations, improving educational standards and promoting international understanding.

Mrs. Lieberman has developed the Advisory Network for Women’s Health to promote awareness and prevention of heart disease and worked to link American business to world class standards in math and science at the National Research Council.

She has also devoted herself to community service including Best Friends, a character building program for teenage girls, Meridan House, a nonprofit educational institutions which promotes international understanding and the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation, which memorializes victims of the Holocaust.

The Liebermans are proud parents of four children and 12 grandchildren.
